Junior Chamber International - Manila is a non-stock, non-profit organization whos goal is to empower young people to create positive change in the community. Together with Republikha, an NGO dedicated to producing educational children's music, the Rock and Run was planned over several months with the goal of giving the Philippine running community something they've never experienced before.

With the help of many top rock bands like The Dawn, Kjwan, Brigada, Quest and more, we set the stage for this first Run and Rock concert-for-a-cause. But fate had another kind of event in mind. As the heavens opened up just minutes before the start, the event went into crisis. The heavy downpour quickly submerged our electricals in a foot of water and the risk of electrocuting both the runners and the rockers was very real. So right before The Dawn was to take the stage to start the race, we shut-off the power in all 3 concert stages in the interest of safety.

The race still had to go on with thousands of runners already assembled. It was an amazing sight to see thousands of you gamely taking off amidst the rain. With the difficult conditions, the safety and well-being of all the runners was foremost on the minds of the organizing committee.

Together with the BGC security force, race officials and especially the volunteers of Republikha and JCI Manila, we were determined to cope with the difficulties posed by the sudden downpour. More than 30 volunteers scrambled out to augment the race directors' personnel on the course. These volunteers helped in the marshaling, traffic and provided additional lighting to areas along the course. Our cheerers took the place of the bands who could no longer perform. We are grateful for the dedication of these volunteers who were able to ensure that all participants came back safely.

Despite these efforts, we know the race was not the ideal experience we wanted it to be. And for those who were inconvenienced in any way before, during or after the race we sincerely apologize for our shortcomings.

For those who were disappointed about the Rock part not pushing thru, unfortunately, the sudden and intense downpour left all equipment and wiring too wet to use the whole night. Please do know that the bands also stayed in the hopes that they could still play for you. Most credit goes to Brigada who kept playing despite the risk to themselves and their instruments being damaged. Our thanks to hosts Hillary and Roxanne Barcelo who kept the post-race program going despite the technical difficulties.

We congratulate all the winners who received generous prizes from our sponsors, our raffle prize winners, those who ran in full costume, and those who simply ran in the pouring rain.

It was the unwavering spirit of all who were there that day, the volunteers, the bands and most especially you, the runners, that truly Rocks. We sincerely thank you for being the Rockin' part of our run and for helping this very worthy cause.

Sincerely,
The Rock and Run Organizing Team

* Thanks to the generous help of our sponsors, such as our Canon Philippines, Red Bull, Crocs, Brooks, Pocari and all the participants, the proceeds of this event will go to help Republihka produce its first album - Jooma Jam which is a values-laden, educational CD that will be distributed free to countless schools in marginalized areas nationwide and the community development projects of JCI Manila for the youth of Smokey Mountain.

RACE RESULTS: We regret to inform everyone that the heavy rains also affected some of the time recording machines during the race. Race officials have done their best to manually reconstruct some results from back-up tapes over the past several days. Hence the results are far from perfect. We apologize for this and hope for your understanding.
Lastly, we value all your feedback on the run. Please do not hesitate to email add info@rockandrun.com.ph for any comments and we will take them all constructively.
